Finally! Photographs! Of that house we bought a million years ago!
I’ve dumped a ton of photos of Casa Nueva into Google Photos, so you can see all of her here: https://goo.gl/photos/wB8VsQXKLH11F63Y8
These aren’t really “before” shots because the actual before, the state in which we viewed the house (for 30 minutes) and bought the house are much more full of…stuff. Those are in another folder and I’ll share those with some of the more dramatic transitions once they are made.
The Story of How We Got The House can wait for another day, since it’s a long and tedious one.
Casa Nueva was built in 1926 and has 3-4* bedrooms and 2 bathrooms spread over 2.5 floors. There is a 2 room lean-to that we plan to take down, a small back yard, a detached garage, shed, lovely sidepath/walk along the house and a great big front porch.
Our neighborhood is Rancho San Antonio, or just San Antonio, in Oakland. We’re off the Park Street exit, above Foothill and very close to downtown Oakland where Sky works and Rufus’ daycare on 35th. There’s a large and family friendly park just a couple blocks away. So far we really like the neighbors we’ve met and are loving the busy and multicultural living after our time in almost-surburbia.
We’ve been here for 40 days now — seems like so much longer. Still have one hundred and one boxes to unpack. We have an entire storage unit just for books, but we’ll get there. We’ve got all the time in the world.
*The bottom floor isn’t permit-friendly as it’s just a wee bit short, but with a guest bed, washer and dryer, and some kitsch it’s working well as The Laundromat
